Bhubaneswar: The State-level Procurement Committee convened today to finalise key decisions for the Rabi season’s agricultural strategy. With paddy procurement scheduled to commence in 20 districts of Odisha starting in May, this session aimed to ensure efficiency and transparency in operations. The committee has set a target of 14 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) for this season, reflecting a significant focus on improving farmer welfare and streamlining procurement processes.

Chaired by the Agriculture Minister of Odisha, the meeting included top officials from the Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Department, cooperative societies, and other stakeholders. Key discussions revolved around bolstering infrastructure at procurement centres, ensuring timely payments to farmers, and utilising digital systems to minimise delays.

The committee reassured that measures were being taken to align operations with the state’s farmer-friendly policies. As part of the initiative, district administrations are being tasked with close monitoring to ensure procurement is conducted fairly and efficiently. This comprehensive approach is expected to not only meet the target but also improve the livelihoods of farmers across Odisha.

Odisha’s robust agricultural framework has consistently demonstrated its ability to deliver remarkable results, and this season’s procurement strategy is poised to further solidify the state’s leadership in agricultural advancement.
