( Newshub Desk) – US President Donald Trump has voiced concern over the intensifying conflict between India and Pakistan, urging both nations to halt retaliatory actions and signalling his willingness to mediate.

Speaking at the White House, Trump described the situation as “tit-for-tat” and expressed hope that the nuclear-armed neighbours could find a peaceful resolution.

“I know both countries very well. I’d like to see them work it out. And if I can do anything to help, I’ll be there,” he remarked, calling the escalating tensions “a shame.”

The crisis escalated following India’s missile strikes on alleged terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, launched in retaliation for an April 22 attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 civilians.

Pakistan responded, claiming it had shot down Indian aircraft and reporting over 30 fatalities in India’s offensive.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is actively engaged in diplomatic efforts, discussing de-escalation strategies with Saudi Arabia’s foreign minister.

Washington, while maintaining communication with both Delhi and Islamabad, has offered indirect backing to India while avoiding direct criticism of Pakistan.

With global attention also fixed on conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza, analysts suggest Washington may proceed cautiously to avoid deeper involvement in the South Asian crisis.
