( Newshub Desk )Security measures at Hirakud Dam have been significantly heightened as authorities work to protect this vital infrastructure. Starting today, tourists will not be allowed to enter the dam premises until further notice.

Officials from Sambalpur district administration, in coordination with state and central security agencies, confirmed that the restriction is temporary and will be reviewed periodically.

To bolster security, advanced surveillance protocols have been put in place, including the deployment of Light Machine Guns (LMGS), ensuring swift response capability in case of emergencies.

Located across the Mahanadi River, Hirakud Dam is instrumental in irrigation, power generation, and flood control.

Authorities stress that while no specific threat has been disclosed, the move aligns with broader efforts to safeguard key national infrastructure.

Tourists and local residents have been urged to comply with new guidelines, avoid restricted zones, and follow official advisories. Updates on future developments will be communicated through government channels.
