Bhubaneswar ( Newshub Desk): The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Nor’wester (Kalbaisakhi) warning for five coastal districts of Odisha—Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Khordha, and Cuttack.
The alert predicts thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds within the next few hours.
As the storm brews in coastal areas, western Odisha is experiencing extreme heat, with temperatures soaring to 42°C. While sporadic showers have brought temporary relief in some regions, the oppressive humidity continues to grip the state.
Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon is expected to enter the south Andaman Sea and Bay of Bengal by May 27.
Some meteorological models even suggest an earlier arrival, potentially influenced by a developing low-pressure system over the Arabian Sea.
The IMD advises residents to take precautionary measures during the storm. Citizens in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, where thunderstorms are expected, should stay indoors and avoid venturing outside during severe weather activity.
