Bhubaneswar, June 1, ( Newshub Desk): In a major boost for dairy farmers, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has announced a ₹3 per litre increase in procurement rates for milk producers affiliated with the Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation (OMFED).

The announcement was made during the state-level celebrations of World Milk Day 2025 at Lok Seva Bhawan, underscoring the government’s commitment to strengthening rural livelihoods.

Alongside the price hike, the Chief Minister unveiled three new dairy products—Bucket Curd (Balti Dahi), A2 Milk, and A2 Desi Cow Ghee—crafted from indigenous Binjharpuri cows.

These products aim to promote traditional dairy practices while enhancing nutritional benefits for consumers.

To support dairy farmers further, the government introduced accidental death assistance of ₹1 lakh for OMFED-affiliated farmers.

Additionally, ₹71 crore in financial aid has been distributed to nearly 3 lakh cattle rearers under the Mukhyamantri Kamadhenu Yojana, a scheme aimed at boosting milk production and ensuring better care for livestock.

The revised milk procurement rate is set to benefit around 2.5 lakh dairy farmers across Odisha.

To mitigate the impact on consumers, the government will subsidise ₹2 per litre out of the ₹4 price increase, striking a balance between affordability and fair earnings for milk producers.

Deputy CM Pravati Parida emphasised the role of Mission Shakti women-led groups, referring to them as “Lakhpati Didis” who have revolutionised dairy and organic compost production.

Fisheries & Livestock Development Minister Gokulananda Mallik hailed the Kamadhenu Yojana as a “game-changer” in rural prosperity.

With a vision to double the state’s milk output to 52 lakh metric tonnes within five years, Odisha is on a determined path to becoming a model dairy-producing state.

The Chief Minister concluded the event with a powerful statement: “We want to realise the dream of a Milk-Rich Odisha, Healthy Odisha.
