Bhubaneswar, June 23, (Newshub Desk): The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange warning for several districts in Odisha, forecasting intense rainfall and thunderstorms between June 25 and 27 due to a developing cyclonic circulation over Gangetic West Bengal.

A trough extending from southern Pakistan to Bangladesh, cutting through central Indian states, is expected to intensify the weather disturbance, triggering heavy downpours and gusty winds across coastal and interior Odisha.

Forecast Timeline:

  • June 23–24: A yellow warning is in place for 25+ districts, including Khordha, Cuttack, Ganjam, Koraput, and Mayurbhanj, expecting thunderstorms with lightning and winds up to 40 kmph.
  • June 24–25: Moderate to heavy rainfall is likely in Keonjhar, Balasore, and Mayurbhanj, with widespread thunder activity elsewhere.
  • June 25–26: An orange alert is active for Keonjhar, Gajapati, Ganjam, and others, signalling intense weather conditions.
  • June 26–27: The alert continues for Bhadrak, Angul, Dhenkanal, and Jajpur, calling for heightened vigilance.

Public Advisory: The IMD has urged citizens, especially those in low-lying and cyclone-sensitive zones, to stay updated and avoid unnecessary travel during the warning period.
