Bhubaneswar, June 23 (Newshub desk): In a move welcomed by regular commuters, the South Eastern Railway (SER) has announced the resumption of Coromandel Express (12841/12842) and Dhauli Express (12821/12822) operations from Howrah Junction, starting August 25, 2025.
Both trains were temporarily rerouted to Shalimar Station over the past three years to ease congestion at Howrah.
The decision, though not formally explained by SER, follows growing dissatisfaction among passengers—especially elderly travellers and those with medical needs—who found Shalimar less accessible due to limited public transport and first-mile/last-mile connectivity.
In contrast, Howrah offers superior connectivity, amenities, and logistical ease.
Revised Timings:
- Coromandel Express: Departs Howrah at 3:10 PM, arrives in Chennai at 5:00 PM the next day.
- Dhauli Express: Departs Howrah at 9:10 AM, reaches Puri by 6:15 PM.
This route restoration is expected to significantly benefit daily travellers, tourists, and those commuting for medical and educational purposes.
Rail authorities have advised passengers to double-check station details before travel as Indian Railways continues to issue real-time updates through SMS alerts, announcements, and digital displays.
Meanwhile, in a related update, the Purushottam Express (Puri–New Delhi) has been shifted to Anand Vihar Terminal instead of New Delhi Station as part of a redevelopment-related congestion mitigation plan.
However, its route and stoppages remain unchanged.
