Kalinganagar, July 7, 2025 – A three-day tribal cuisine workshop organised by Tata Steel Foundation successfully concluded at Gobarghati on Sunday. This initiative brought together 35 tribal home cooks from Trijanga R&R Colony, Gobarghati Phase-2, Jamposi, New Champakoila Self Rehab Colony, and Ramthenga villages, focusing on the vital preservation and promotion of tribal culinary knowledge alongside the encouragement of healthy eating practices.

The comprehensive workshop was meticulously designed to empower participants with enhanced skills and knowledge across various aspects of traditional tribal cooking.

The first day laid a strong foundation, concentrating on the preparation of traditional, nutritionally rich foods. Sessions included interactive group discussions, presentations by all participating groups, and an insightful documentary screening that underscored the historical significance and enduring value of age-old tribal food practices.

The second day emphasised critical elements of food safety and hygiene, providing participants with essential knowledge for preparing meals safely. Practical sessions offered valuable hands-on opportunities for attendees to apply their newly acquired learnings, reinforcing best practices in a real-world setting.

The concluding day was dedicated entirely to the practical preparation of diverse traditional dishes. Highlights included the creation of Mandia (ragi) juices and various tribal herbal teas, celebrated for their significant health benefits and nutritional value.

This workshop underscores Tata Steel Foundation’s commitment to cultural preservation and community well-being by empowering tribal home cooks with enhanced culinary skills and knowledge of healthy practices.
