Beijing, July 15, (Newshub Desk)— In a crucial diplomatic breakthrough, Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing for high-level talks aimed at recalibrating bilateral relations.

This marks Jaishankar’s first visit to China since the 2020 Galwan Valley clash, a significant turning point in India-China ties.

The meeting, held on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) ministerial summit, comes amid signs of a cautious thaw in relations.

Jaishankar conveyed greetings from President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, underscoring the importance of leadership in rebuilding mutual trust.

India-China relations have gradually improved following the Modi–Xi summit in Kazan in October 2024, which led to key military disengagements in Depsang and Demchok—historical flashpoints in Ladakh.

Jaishankar also met Chinese Vice President Han Zheng and is expected to hold bilateral talks with Foreign Minister Wang Yi during his visit.

His China stop is part of a two-nation tour, with Singapore as the preceding destination.

The series of meetings is being seen as pivotal in charting a new course for South Asian diplomacy, as both nations navigate economic interdependence, strategic concerns, and regional stability.
