PURI, July 5, 2025 — Spiritual fervour swept through the Grand Road of Puri as the return chariot procession of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Subhadra — the sacred Bahuda Yatra — unfolded with traditional splendour today.

Lakhs of devotees from across the country congregated to witness the divine journey from Gundicha Temple back to the sanctum of Shri Jagannath Temple.

Ceremonies began in the early hours with Mangala Alati, Mailam, and Surya Puja. The symbolic Pahandi procession commenced at 2:30 PM, followed by the ceremonial Chhera Pahanra performed by the Gajapati Maharaja.

By 4:00 PM, the majestic chariot-pulling ritual started as chants of “Jai Jagannath” echoed through the Bada Danda.

In anticipation of the deities’ evening arrival at Shri Mandir — scheduled before 7:30 PM for Lakshmi-Narayan Bhet — extensive crowd and security arrangements were in place.

Over 205 police platoons were deployed, traffic was rerouted, and dedicated parking zones were marked for smooth pilgrim movement from Bhubaneswar, Konark, and Brahmagiri routes.

A unique cultural moment unfolded as a devotee from West Bengal, dressed as Mahadev, prepared to perform the Tandava dance during the yatra.

Pilgrims experienced their final darshan at the Gundicha Temple and offered heartfelt prayers before bidding farewell to the Lord’s temporary abode.

The Bahuda Yatra not only signified the spiritual reunion of the divine trinity with the Shri Mandir but also reflected Odisha’s enduring devotion, impeccable ritual tradition, and vibrant cultural spirit.
