Bhubaneswar, May 21,( Newshub Desk) – The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has formally appealed to the Governor of Odisha to ensure the implementation of a 27% reservation for Other Backwards Classes (OBC) students in all educational institutions across the state.
The party’s leaders emphasised the importance of equitable access to education, stating that the move will empower socially and economically disadvantaged communities.
The demand aligns with national affirmative action policies aimed at enhancing educational opportunities for underprivileged groups.
Addressing the media, BJD representatives expressed concerns over the lack of adequate representation for OBC students in higher education and reiterated their commitment to advocating for policy changes that promote inclusivity.
Political analysts speculate that this move could strengthen BJD’s support among OBC communities, particularly ahead of upcoming elections.
Meanwhile, opposition leaders have called for a transparent approach in implementing the reservation, ensuring merit-based admissions remain protected.
The Governor’s response is awaited, as discussions on educational reform take centre stage in the state’s political discourse.
