Paris, June 6, ( Newshub Desk) – Carlos Alcaraz booked his spot in the French Open final in dramatic fashion, as his semifinal opponent Lorenzo Musetti was forced to retire due to injury on Friday.
The Spaniard, ranked world No. 2, overcame a strong challenge from Musetti before dominating the later stages, leading 4-6, 7-6(3), 6-0, 2-0 when Musetti withdrew.
Musetti started strong, taking the first set with his signature defensive play and precise shot-making.
However, Alcaraz fought back in the second, clinching a tense tiebreak to level the match. From there, the momentum shifted as Musetti’s movement became visibly impaired, struggling with a leg injury.
After a medical timeout, the Italian decided he could no longer continue, ending his campaign at Roland Garros with an unfortunate exit.
Alcaraz expressed sympathy for Musetti’s situation but remained focused on the final.
“It’s never easy seeing an opponent retire, but Lorenzo had a fantastic tournament. I hope he recovers soon,” said Alcaraz. “For me, reaching another Roland Garros final is a dream, and I’m ready to give my all.”
With this victory, Alcaraz now awaits the winner of the blockbuster semifinal clash between Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic.
The championship match is scheduled for June 8, where Alcaraz aims to claim his second consecutive French Open title.
