Cuttack, May 30, ( Newshub Desk) — The spectre of COVID-19 has returned to Cuttack as two individuals tested positive for the virus in a single day, sparking concerns among health authorities and residents alike.
A 72-year-old resident from Nua Rausapatna and a 44-year-old from Jhola Sahi exhibited symptoms of fever and cold before testing positive.
According to Cuttack’s Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO), Prashant Hota, neither patient reported any travel history, suggesting potential local transmission.
The resurgence comes amid a nationwide increase in cases driven by the JN.1 variant, a sub-strain of Omicron. Other major cities, including Mumbai, Pune, Chennai, and Ahmedabad, have reported rising infections.
Globally, countries like Hong Kong, Thailand, and Singapore are also witnessing a surge, with sub-variants such as LF-7 and NB-1.8 gaining ground.
Health officials are ramping up testing and precautionary measures in Odisha. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and get tested if they develop symptoms like fever or diarrhoea.
