Keonjhar, ( Newshub Desk) – In a heartbreaking case of alleged dowry torture, a woman named Rashmita from Bhadrak lost her life after reportedly being forced to consume poison by her in-laws.

Her grieving family staged a protest outside the Ghasipura police station, demanding swift justice and strict action against the accused.

Rashmita married Shivananda from Jhadukundi village in 2020. While her marriage initially seemed normal, her father, Rabindra Panda, revealed that her in-laws soon began demanding additional dowry and subjected her to severe mental and physical abuse.

Allegedly, even her husband’s sister and brother-in-law played a role in her suffering.

On June 3, Rashmita was rushed to Anandapur hospital in critical condition and later transferred to SCB Medical College in Cuttack. Despite all efforts, she succumbed to her injuries two days later.

Her family asserts that she was forced to ingest poison and that her tragic death was falsely framed as a suicide.

No official statement has been released by the police or the accused in-laws, but investigations are currently underway.

The case highlights the persistent issue of dowry-related violence in India and calls for stricter enforcement of laws to prevent such atrocities.
