Balasore, , July 14(Newshub Desk) — In a harrowing turn of events, Sahadevkhunta police have arrested Dilip Ghosh, the suspended Principal of Fakir Mohan Autonomous College, after a second-year B.Ed student, Soumyashree Biswal, attempted self-immolation at the college gate on July 12.

Soumyashree had lodged multiple complaints alleging mental harassment, academic discrimination, and intimidation by the Head of Education Department, Sameer Kumar Sahu. Despite earlier suspensions, both officials were formally arrested following mounting public pressure.

Student unions, rights groups, and political leaders across Odisha have condemned the institution’s inaction. The Odisha government has announced a high-level inquiry and committed to institutional reforms to prevent future incidents of negligence.

Soumyashree remains in critical condition at AIIMS Bhubaneswar, while civil society demands justice and robust student grievance mechanisms.

This tragedy has reignited conversations about student safety and accountability within higher education.
