Bhubaneswar(Newshub Desk): The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall warning for several districts in Odisha over the next 48 hours, triggered by an active cyclonic circulation over southern Bangladesh and adjoining regions.

The system is expected to bring moderate to heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching up to 40 kmph.

Districts under close watch include Keonjhar, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Mayurbhanj, and Bolangir. Coastal Odisha and at least 15 nearby districts are also likely to experience stormy conditions.

Thuamul Rampur in Kalahandi recorded the highest rainfall in the state at 55 mm in the past 24 hours.

According to Bhubaneswar MeT Centre Director Manorama Mohanty, an upper-air cyclonic circulation over Gangetic West Bengal is influencing the weather pattern across Odisha.

Authorities have urged residents to stay alert, avoid low-lying areas, and limit travel during peak downpour hours. Fishermen have been strongly advised against venturing into the sea during this period.
