India delivered a commanding all-round performance, defeating England by 142 runs in the third ODI to secure a 3-0 series sweep in style.

After being put in to bat first, India posted an impressive total of 356 runs, highlighted by a brilliant century from Shubman Gill, who scored 112 runs—his seventh ODI century. He received solid support from Shreyas Iyer, who contributed 78 runs, and Virat Kohli, who added 52 runs, ensuring the team capitalized on a strong foundation. Adil Rashid was England’s standout bowler, taking 4 wickets for 65 runs.

In response, England started quickly, racing to 60 runs in the first six overs. However, Arshdeep Singh turned the tide by dismissing Ben Duckett, which sparked a dramatic collapse. Despite decent contributions from Gus Atkinson, Tom Banton, and Joe Root, the visitors struggled against India’s disciplined bowling attack. England ultimately crumbled, being bowled out for 214 runs.

With this convincing victory by 142 runs, India showcased their batting depth and bowling strength, completing a dominant 3-0 whitewash of the series.

    England Captain Jos Buttler said:

A similar story to the rest of the tour—we were outplayed by a top-quality team. Our approach is the right one, but we haven’t executed it well enough. They set up a strong total, and Shubman Gill played a fantastic innings. Once again, we got off to a good start, but the familiar issue of not batting long enough cost us. We need to figure out a way to build deeper partnerships. Credit to India—they are a highly competitive side that keeps pushing us to improve.

Player of the Match & Series,  Shubman Gill said:

I was feeling good out there, and this was one of my better knocks in the format. The wicket was a bit tricky early on, with some assistance for the fast bowlers. Our focus was on not losing too many wickets in the powerplay and building a solid foundation. As a batter, you don’t overthink—you just react to what’s in front of you. I’ve been keeping things simple, staying in the moment, and trusting my instincts.

    India Captain Rohit Sharma said:

Pleased with the performance. Coming back to this format after a long break, we wanted to regroup quickly and get into the rhythm. Their openers started well and put us under early pressure, but our fightback was outstanding. In ODIs, you always have time to recover—just because the momentum shifts doesn’t mean it stays that way. Credit to the bowlers, they chipped in at crucial moments, and the energy on the field was top-notch.

When asked about Axar at No. 5, Rohit said: “We wanted a left-hander in the middle to counter their spinners, and Axar has improved massively as a batter over the years. His partnership with Gill was crucial in setting up the win.”

Further the India skipper, on the Champions Trophy approach, said: “No specific goals—just want us to keep improving in all areas. We are ticking the right boxes, though we could have avoided losing wickets at the end. It’s all about fine-tuning our game as a team.”
