May 6, 2025 ( Newshub Desk) In response to escalating tensions with Pakistan, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has directed all states and Union Territories to conduct large-scale civil defence drills on May 7.

These exercises will be carried out across 244 civil defence districts and aim to enhance civilian preparedness against evolving security threats.

This directive follows the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu & Kashmir, where 26 civilians lost their lives, and recent missile tests conducted by Pakistan.

The drills will simulate emergency scenarios, testing air raid warning systems, blackout protocols, and communication links with the Indian Air Force.

Additionally, the exercises will focus on evacuations, camouflaging vital installations, and ensuring community-level preparedness down to the village level.

Participants in these drills will include civil defence personnel, Home Guards, NCC, NSS, NYKS members, students, and local volunteers. The Home Ministry emphasised that these measures are aimed at strengthening India’s civilian defence posture.
