(Newshub Desk) In a landmark move toward passenger safety, Indian Railways is set to install CCTV cameras across 74,000 train coaches and 15,000 locomotives nationwide.

This ambitious initiative follows successful pilot trials in Northern Railway units and aims to strengthen security, deter criminal activity, and support law enforcement across India’s vast rail network.

Each coach will be equipped with four dome-type cameras—strategically positioned at entry points—while locomotives will feature six cameras capturing all angles, supplemented by desk-mounted microphones in control cabins.

Officials emphasised that cameras will be placed only in common movem(Newshub Desk)ent areas to respect passengers’ privacy.

To elevate surveillance capabilities, the Railway Ministry is integrating AI-powered tools in partnership with the India AI Mission, enabling real-time monitoring and predictive safety analytics.

All equipment will be STQC certified, ensuring high-performance standards and quality footage.

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and MoS Ravneet Singh Bittu recently reviewed implementation plans, assuring the public of timely, high-quality execution.

Once operational, this system is expected to transform rail travel, boosting confidence among millions of daily passengers.
