New Delhi, May 16, ( Newshub desk) – In a grand ceremony at Vigyan Bhawan, President Droupadi Murmu honoured Jagatguru Ram Bhadracharya with the 58th Jnanpith Award, recognising his outstanding contributions to Indian literature and Sanskrit scholarship.
The award celebrates his dedication to preserving and enriching India’s literary heritage.
The President also extended her congratulations to celebrated poet Gulzar, another recipient of the Jnanpith Award, despite his absence from the event due to health reasons.
She expressed hopes for his speedy recovery and acknowledged his enduring impact on art, literature, and Indian society.
During her address, President Murmu emphasised literature’s role in shaping national consciousness and inspiring societal change.
She cited influential literary figures like Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, Valmiki, Vyas, Kalidas, and Rabindranath Tagore, highlighting how their works continue to resonate across generations.
The Bharatiya Jnanpith Trust, which has been recognising literary excellence since 1965, was praised for its efforts in honouring India’s finest writers across various languages.
The President also celebrated the contributions of women writers, such as Ashapurna Devi, Amrita Pritam, Mahadevi Verma, and others, encouraging more women to pursue literary endeavours.
In her tribute to Jagatguru Ram Bhadracharya, she acknowledged his remarkable achievements despite physical challenges, expressing confidence that his legacy will inspire future generations to contribute to literature and social progress.
