(Newshub Desk)James Gunn’s ambitious reboot of Superman is turning heads and reigniting belief in the superhero genre.

Garnering an impressive 86% rating on Rotten Tomatoes from 147 early reviews, the film marks a tonal and narrative shift that many critics hail as a genre revival.

At the heart of the praise is David Corenswet, whose portrayal of the Man of Steel has drawn widespread acclaim. Critics are calling him the most emotionally resonant and charismatic Superman since the late Christopher Reeve.

Gunn’s decision to pair a grounded narrative with nostalgic flair—such as John Williams’ iconic 1978 theme—has added emotional weight without veering into camp.

Film critics like Amy Nicholson (LA Times) have applauded the movie’s tonal balance, calling it “refreshingly sincere,” while Clarisse Loughrey (The Independent) noted it “makes viewers believe in superhero movies again.” The chemistry among Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane), and Nicholas Hoult (Lex Luthor) is also being highlighted as a key strength of the film.

However, not all feedback has been glowing. Some, like Nick Schager of The Daily Beast, argue that the film’s CGI-heavy visuals and traditional storytelling reflect an outdated style.

Set for global release on July 11, 2025, Superman is already poised to become one of the year’s most talked-about blockbusters—whether it soars as a modern classic or stirs debate over its direction.
