Khiripada(Newshub desk)— A jaundice outbreak in the villages of Khiripada and Parichhipur under the Gopabandhunagar block of Mayurbhanj district has raised health concerns, with over 40 residents reportedly affected.

The majority are receiving treatment at home, while some serious cases have been referred to larger hospitals.

Preliminary investigations point to contaminated water sources—wells and ponds—as the likely culprits.

Water samples were collected three weeks ago for testing, but the results are yet to be released.

In response, local authorities have sealed several suspected water bodies and activated alternate arrangements such as daily tanker water supply and emergency tube wells.

Health department teams and local ASHA workers have conducted awareness meetings and are distributing necessary medicines. Residents have been urged to avoid untreated water and boil it before consumption.

“Immediate steps have been taken to seal contaminated sources and supply potable water,” said Dr. Shantanu Kumar Jena, a local medical officer.

Meanwhile, community leaders emphasised the need for improved drainage and broader awareness to prevent further spread.
