Tragedy struck the serene Baisaran Valley in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, when a sudden terror attack claimed the lives of at least 20 people, including Prashanta Satapathy, an Odia tourist from Balasore, Odisha. The attackers, reportedly disguised as policemen, opened fire on unsuspecting tourists in what has been described as one of the deadliest assaults in recent history.
Prashanta, an accountant on a family vacation, was fatally shot in the head during the ambush. His wife, Priyadarshini Acharya, shared her harrowing account of the incident, highlighting delays in medical and security response that led to further distress. Initial reports suggest that around 28 people may have been killed as the attackers fired between 40 to 50 rounds.
The local police have set up helplines to assist affected tourists and their families, as authorities continue to investigate the tragic attack.
