In a progressive step toward fortifying Odisha’s law and order system, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has approved a significant increase in allowances and incentives for the state’s police personnel. In a meeting held at Lok Seva Bhawan on April 24, 2025, the CM announced that the uniform allowance for ranks ranging from constables to inspectors has been doubled. Furthermore, the extra duty incentive for constables, havildars, and sepoys has been raised, recognising their pivotal role in maintaining public safety.
According to the revised structure, inspectors will now receive an annual uniform allowance of ₹8,600, up from ₹4,300. Similarly, sub-inspectors and ASIS will benefit from a hike to ₹8,400 annually, and havildars, constables, and sepoys will receive ₹10,000 annually—double their previous allowance. Special striking force personnel, consisting of ex-army employees, will now have their annual uniform allowance increased to ₹11,800 from ₹5,900.
The extra duty incentives have also seen substantial revisions. Constables and other similar ranks can now earn up to ₹25,000 annually, whereas havildars and equivalent ranks are eligible for a maximum of ₹30,000 annually. These benefits aim to motivate the police force and enhance their morale, as acknowledged by members of the Constable, Havildar, and Sepoy Association during a gratitude visit to the Chief Minister.
The CM emphasised the importance of diligence and skill in the police’s future endeavours to strengthen Odisha’s law and order system. He also declared the creation of over 16,059 new posts in the police department to address the existing vacancy of 16,000 positions. These measures will ensure that Odisha’s police-to-population ratio aligns with national standards.
Highlighting the state’s commitment to a structured and capable police force, the Chief Minister instructed senior officers to observe and adopt operational practices from other states. The Odisha government continues to remain steadfast in its goal of making the state an exemplary model of peace and order.
