Keonjhar, Odisha ( Newshub Desk) – In a bid to enhance medical infrastructure, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi inaugurated new In-Patient Services and a dedicated Trauma Care Unit at Dharanidhar Medical College & Hospital.
The initiative aims to provide life-saving treatment, particularly for accident victims in the mineral-rich Keonjhar district.
With Keonjhar witnessing high vehicular movement due to mining activities, the trauma care unit is expected to play a vital role in emergency response.
CM Majhi announced that similar trauma units will soon be introduced in other districts to bolster Odisha’s healthcare system.
The government has prioritised healthcare development by recruiting 4,000 doctors and healthcare workers, with plans to bring in 5,000 more medical professionals.
Additionally, new ambulances have been deployed to strengthen emergency medical services.
To expand medical education, Odisha will establish four new medical colleges in Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Dhenkanal, and Nabarangpur, fulfilling its goal of having at least one medical college per district.
The central government will fund 60% of the construction costs, with the state covering the remaining 40%.
Healthcare schemes such as Gopabandhu Jan Arogya Yojana and Ayushman Bharat now enable patients to receive treatment at 29,000 hospitals across India, while senior citizens above 70 years benefit from Ayushman Bharat Yojana.
During the inauguration, CM Majhi urged doctors to view healthcare as a mission, combining expertise with a service-oriented mindset to elevate Odisha’s medical standards
The event was attended by key state ministers and MLAS, marking a major step in strengthening healthcare accessibility.
With Odisha’s rapid advancements in emergency medical care and medical education, the state is set to witness a transformative shift in healthcare services.
