Bhubaneswar( Newshub Desk): In a significant policy shift, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has announced a compensation hike for victims of wildlife attacks, raising the amount from Rs 6 lakh to Rs 10 lakh.
Acknowledging the challenges faced by residents living near forested areas, the state government has also introduced housing assistance for affected individuals.
Those whose homes are damaged due to wildlife incursions will receive support under the Antyodaya Housing Scheme or an equivalent financial grant.
Further provisions include Rs 3,000 for damages to kitchen structures, grain storage units, or cattle shelters, and Rs 5,000 per meter for boundary wall repairs, up to a maximum of Rs 25,000.
This initiative underscores Odisha’s commitment to addressing human-wildlife conflict and ensuring financial security for impacted families.
