Cuttack, Odisha ( Newshub Desk)— A tragic accident occurred in Cuttack, Odisha, when a slab from a bridge under construction suddenly collapsed, resulting in the deaths of three workers and leaving two others seriously injured.
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has expressed deep sorrow over the incident and assured immediate action. He has ordered an investigation to determine the cause of the collapse and whether negligence played a role.
The accident took place in Khananagar, where construction work was ongoing under the supervision of a private contractor.
Reports indicate that the collapse happened due to a crane failure, affecting workers who were stationed both on and beneath the structure.
The Chief Minister has announced financial aid of ₹5 lakh for the families of the deceased and assured free medical treatment for the injured. Meanwhile, local authorities have intensified scrutiny of the construction site’s safety measures.
Cuttack Mayor Subhas Singh criticised the lack of proper worker safety protocols, suggesting that lapses in oversight contributed to the tragedy.
The investigation is expected to reveal further details about possible structural deficiencies or contractor negligence.
