Puri, ( Newshub Desk) – In a significant move to enhance security at one of India’s most revered pilgrimage sites, the Odisha government has announced plans to install anti-drone technology at the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri.
This initiative aims to prevent unauthorised aerial activity and protect the sanctity of the temple premises.
Odisha Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan confirmed that discussions between the Law Department and the State Police are at an advanced stage, with a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) already drafted.
“If any drone is flown over the Shree Jagannath Temple after the installation of this technology, it will be immediately intercepted and brought down,” said Minister Harichandan.
The Jagannath Temple Administration has expressed readiness to fund the project, emphasising the importance of safeguarding religious integrity and security. The anti-drone system will function by identifying and neutralising unauthorised drones within a designated radius.
This measure follows a national trend where major religious sites, including the Golden Temple in Amritsar and Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi, have implemented drone restrictions and aerial security protocols.
Authorities intend to roll out the system in phases, beginning with pilot tests in key temple zones, followed by full-scale deployment.
The initiative has received widespread support from temple officials, security experts, and devotees, who see it as a necessary step in modernising temple security while preserving religious traditions.
With the finalisation of logistics underway, the Odisha government is expected to collaborate with technical experts and security agencies to ensure smooth implementation.
