Bhubaneswar ( Newshub Desk): In a major move toward ensuring land rights for vulnerable communities, Odisha’s Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari has directed all district administrations to conduct a door-to-door survey identifying families owning less than 4 decimals of land.
This initiative falls under the Vasundhara Scheme, which aims to provide legal land ownership to landless and marginal families across the state.
Minister Pujari reaffirmed the government’s commitment to securing land rights for economically weaker sections.
“Those who own no land or hold less than 4 decimals will be identified and granted land pattas under the Vasundhara Scheme,” he stated.
Odisha currently operates under two revenue laws that regulate land distribution, but discrepancies in land records have led to inconsistencies.
Some beneficiaries have inherited over 5 decimals, while others have received less than one decimal—often without proper documentation.
To address these disparities, the Odisha government has amended the Odisha Land Settlement Rules, following Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s approval on May 17.
An official notification has been issued, and district collectors are tasked with carrying out the survey under the revised rules.
The initiative aims to bring clarity and legal recognition to thousands of families who have remained landless or lacked formal documentation.
Officials believe the move will empower marginalised communities and contribute to their socio-economic upliftment.
