Bhubaneswar, May 31, ( Newshub Desk): The Odisha government has implemented a 10% increase in water tariffs for industrial and commercial sectors, effective retroactively from April 1, 2025.

This decision, enforced by the Water Resources Department, aligns with the Odisha Irrigation Rules-1961 and its 2016 amendment.

Officials have instructed subordinate authorities to communicate these revised tariffs to industries using government-allocated water or groundwater.

For instance, the brick and tile industry, which paid ₹54 per 1,000 litres, will now be charged ₹57.

The move aims to support sustainable water management and cover maintenance costs, but industries may face increased financial pressures.

Stakeholders are advised to prepare for these revised rates as Odisha progresses toward efficient resource utilisation.
