Bhubaneswar, May 4, 2025 ( Newshub Desk) – Odisha’s Raj Bhavan is making strides toward sustainability with an ambitious plan to become fully solar-powered within the next few months.

Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati announced the installation of a 400 kw solar power plant, supplementing the existing 150 kw unit.

This transition will eliminate Raj Bhavan’s electricity expenses—currently ₹3 lakh per month—and reinforce its commitment to renewable energy.

In addition, the official fleet now includes Made-in-India electric vehicles (EVS), featuring four cars and two-wheelers for staff.

Governor Kambhampati urged citizens to embrace government-backed solar initiatives such as PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana (subsidised rooftop solar) and PM KUSUM Yojana (solar-powered irrigation). “Solar energy is not just an alternative, it’s a necessity,” he stated.

Odisha Raj Bhavan’s move toward net-zero energy sets an example for institutions and households across the state, encouraging a sustainable future driven by solar power.
