Bhubaneswar, April 30, 2025 ( Newshub Desk): Chief Minister Majhi has announced an ambitious target to provide irrigation to 15 lakh hectares of agricultural land across Odisha within the next five years.
This initiative, aimed at bolstering the state’s agricultural productivity and ensuring water security for farmers, is set to be a game-changer in Odisha’s rural development landscape.
The government plans to achieve this target through a combination of modern irrigation techniques, infrastructure development, and efficient water management.
Speaking at a press conference, CM Majhi emphasised the importance of sustainable agricultural practices and committed to empowering the farming community.
As part of the strategy, a significant portion of the project budget will be allocated to constructing new canals, reviving defunct irrigation systems, and promoting micro-irrigation methods such as drip and sprinkler irrigation.
The initiative is expected to benefit thousands of farmers across the state, reducing their dependence on monsoons and improving crop yield.
Experts believe that this ambitious irrigation project will not only enhance agricultural productivity but also contribute to the state’s overall economic growth. The government is also seeking collaboration with private sector players to ensure the timely completion and success of this initiative.
The announcement has been welcomed by the agricultural community, who see this as a ray of hope for tackling recurring droughts and water shortages. Further details about the implementation plan are expected to be revealed in the coming months.
