( Newshub desk)In a strategic effort to enhance national security preparedness, India has launched Operation Shield, a coordinated civil defence drill across states bordering Pakistan.
The drill, covering Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, and Chandigarh, aims to test emergency response mechanisms in potentially hostile situations.
Originally scheduled for May 29, the operation was postponed due to administrative reasons, emphasising the critical nature of preparedness efforts.
Exercises include simulated air raid sirens, blackout protocols, and synchronised emergency responses, ensuring both authorities and civilians remain vigilant.
Officials confirm that vulnerable regions, especially in Punjab, will experience complete blackouts, with essential services remaining operational.
This security initiative follows lessons learned from a nationwide drill conducted on May 7, which identified gaps in India’s defence readiness.
By implementing Operation Shield, authorities seek to strengthen rapid response capabilities and mitigate risks in sensitive border areas.
As tensions persist along India’s western frontier, this drill underscores the nation’s commitment to ensuring safety and strategic defence preparedness.
