( Newshub desk)Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the much-anticipated Chenab Bridge today, marking a historic milestone in India’s railway infrastructure.

Standing taller than the Eiffel Tower, this engineering marvel is a crucial component of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Railway (USBRL) project, aimed at enhancing connectivity in Jammu & Kashmir.

During the grand event, PM Modi hailed the bridge as a “monument of engineering excellence”, underscoring its role in integrating Kashmir with India’s vast rail network.

In addition to the inauguration, the Prime Minister flagged off two Vande Bharat Express trains, promising to boost tourism and trade in the region.

Stretching 1.3 kilometres across the Chenab River, the bridge reaches an astounding height of 359 meters, making it the world’s tallest railway arch.

Built to withstand seismic activity and extreme weather, the project represents a significant leap in India’s railway modernisation.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, present at the ceremony, described the bridge as a “game-changer” for Jammu & Kashmir’s transportation network.

Local residents also expressed optimism, seeing this development as a major catalyst for economic growth and improved mobility.

The launch of the Chenab Bridge solidifies India’s commitment to infrastructure expansion, promising new opportunities in trade, tourism, and strategic connectivity across the Himalayan region.
