Bhubaneswar, June 19, (Newshub Desk): Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Odisha on June 20 to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for railway projects worth over Rs 2,750 crore, marking a significant stride toward the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat – Viksit Odisha’.
The visit coincides with the 11th anniversary of his government and one year of the current state government.
A major highlight is the inauguration of the 73 km Sonepur–Purunakatak rail line under the Khurda Road–Balangir project.
Built at a cost of Rs 1,376 crore, it connects the Boudh district headquarters to the national rail network for the first time, fulfilling a long-standing public demand.
Modi will also lay foundation stones for infrastructure upgrades, including the 3rd and 4th lines between Sarla–Sason, and dedicate the newly built 4th line between Jharsuguda–Jamga, along with a freight train maintenance hub, a subway, and a road over bridge.
New train services will launch, such as the Boudh–Bhubaneswar and Sambalpur–Boudh Weekly Express, improving regional and intercity connectivity.
Local operations from Purunakatak are also being expanded.
With the complete electrification of Odisha’s railways and 59 stations being revamped as Amrit Stations, six Vande Bharat trains now serve 17 districts.
These projects are expected to boost industrial growth, enhance logistics efficiency, and drive inclusive development across Odisha.
