New Delhi, June 20,(Newshub Desk) — As President Droupadi Murmu celebrates her 67th birthday today, tributes pour in nationwide, honouring a life devoted to resilience, education, and inclusive leadership.
Born in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district, Murmu emerged from the Santhal tribal community to become India’s first tribal and youngest-ever President in 2022.
Her early life—marked by profound personal tragedies—did not deter her from forging a remarkable path in public service.
Starting as a junior assistant in Odisha’s Irrigation Department and later a school teacher, she nurtured her calling for social change.
Her deep-rooted spirituality, inspired by Raja Yoga through the Brahma Kumaris, has been a quiet force in her journey.
In 2015, she broke new ground as the first tribal woman Governor of Jharkhand, where she firmly stood for tribal rights, most notably by returning two controversial land bills in 2017.
As President, Murmu’s tenure has been marked by symbolic constitutional strides, including the historic appointment of Justice B.R. Gavai—the first Buddhist and second Dalit Chief Justice of India—in May 2025.
Admired for her humility and commitment to marginalised communities, Murmu’s story continues to inspire millions, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds.
