Puri, July 6,(Newshub Desk): The holy town of Puri was steeped in spiritual euphoria on Sunday as the revered sibling deities—Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra—adorned their golden attire during the grand ritual of Suna Besha at the Singhadwara.

Marking a climactic moment in the annual Rath Yatra, the deities were seated atop their majestic chariots and adorned with intricately designed gold ornaments. These dazzling hundreds of thousands of devotees had thronged the Bada Danda.

The ritual, held in the evening after an elaborate schedule of pujas and offerings, symbolised divine opulence and cosmic prosperity.

The sacred routine began with Mangala Alati at 6:00 AM, followed by Gopal Ballabh Bhog at 10:30 AM and Madhyana Dhupa in the afternoon.

The golden transformation—Suna Besha—took place from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM, with darshan continuing until late in the night.

Over 1.5 million pilgrims from across India and beyond gathered for a glimpse of the Chaturdha Murti in regal splendour.

The district administration implemented strict crowd-control protocols to ensure smooth darshan, prohibiting servitors from standing in front of the deities on the chariots.

The Suna Besha tradition, believed to have originated during the reign of King Kapilendra Deb in the 15th century, continues to be one of the most majestic spectacles in the Jagannath cult.

As chants of “Jai Jagannath” echoed through the air, the spiritual unity and divine aura underscored Odisha’s living heritage and cultural magnificence.
