Guwahati, October 14, 2025: Tata Steel today marked a pivotal moment in India’s construction landscape with a dual celebration in Assam: the launch of the first Mobile Bore Pile Cage Machine and the inauguration of a fully automated Construction Service Centre in Guwahati. These initiatives underscore Tata Steel’s unwavering commitment to driving innovation, efficiency, and sustainability in the nation’s rapidly growing infrastructure sector, particularly in the strategically important North-East region.
The Mobile Bore Pile Cage Machine was unveiled at the Tata Semiconductor Assembly and Test Plant site in Assam. Developed in collaboration with TJK India, a global leader in reinforcement automation, this pioneering mobile solution heralds a new era of site-based reinforcement manufacturing for large-scale infrastructure projects. This ‘India-first’ solution is designed to significantly enhance productivity, reduce cost and labour effort, and deliver customised project requirements with unparalleled precision, especially vital in regions known for challenging terrain and logistical complexities.
Adding to this monumental day, Tata Steel inaugurated its first fully automated Construction Service Centre in Guwahati, established in collaboration with its channel partner, SM Corporation Limited. This state-of-the-art facility boasts a production capacity of 2,000 tonnes per month (TPM) and will offer customised reinforcement products and solutions, initially focusing on Tiscon ReadyBuild – pre-engineered Cut & Bend Tata Tiscon TMT rebars with coupler threading. The centre plans to expand its downstream solutions portfolio to include Welded Wire Mesh, positioning itself as a comprehensive one-stop construction service hub.
Speaking at the inauguration of the service centre, Ashish Anupam, Vice President – Long Products, Tata Steel stated: “Launching this Mobile Bore Pile Cage Machine in Assam is a significant step towards strengthening infrastructure in India’s North-East, a region recognised for its promising yet challenging construction environment. This initiative, supported by our Guwahati Construction Service centre, underscores our commitment to innovative and value-added construction solutions for the region.”
To mark the occasion, Tata Steel also hosted a ‘Converse to Construct’ meet for the AEC (Architecture, Engineering, and Construction) community in Guwahati. The event was attended by over 100 customers and consultants from the infrastructure, housing, and industrial sectors. The gathering also featured an address by Sh. Satish Pandey, Principal Scientist & Project Leader, CSIR-Central Road Research Institute (Government of India), who delivered a thought-provoking presentation on New Technologies in Road Construction.
In December 2024, Tata Steel inaugurated a similar fully automated Construction Service Centre in Jaipur, Rajasthan. The Guwahati facility is part of Tata Steel’s growing network of 31 digitally connected, fully automated reinforcement solutions service centres across India. Together, these centres are driving a 33% year-on-year growth in ready-to-use reinforcement solutions. Equipped with state-of-the-art automated machinery, they offer an expanding portfolio that includes cut-and-bend services, engineered meshes, rebar threading, and bore pile cages — transforming construction practices across the country.
