Bhubaneswar, May 30, ( Newshub Desk)– In a landmark development for Odisha’s healthcare system, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan inaugurated a state-of-the-art Super Speciality Hospital at the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla.

The facility, built at a cost of ₹125 crore, is set to transform medical care for residents of Sambalpur, 13 surrounding districts, and neighbouring states, including Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand.

The hospital boasts 272 beds, including 58 ICU beds, offering advanced treatment across nine specialised departments: Urology, Nephrology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Pediatric Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Gastroenterology, Endocrinology, and Clinical Haematology.

With a strong focus on tackling complex conditions like sickle cell disease, this facility aims to position VIMSAR as a regional leader in cutting-edge healthcare and medical innovation.

Speaking at the inauguration, Pradhan emphasised the importance of retaining Odisha-trained doctors, stating that their service is crucial to making Odisha a leading healthcare hub.

He underscored the government’s commitment to medical advancements, including plans for a dental college, AI-enabled treatments, and collaborative research efforts between VIMSAR and Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT).

The Super Speciality Hospital is expected to benefit the underprivileged, enhance accessibility to medical care, and contribute to Odisha’s broader healthcare and academic growth.

Plans to host national and international workshops at VIMSAR further underscore the state’s commitment to medical excellence.

This inauguration marks a new chapter in Odisha’s healthcare journey, promising a future of superior medical services and regional development.
