Panayur, July 4 (Newshub Desk)— In a dramatic shift within Tamil Nadu’s political landscape, actor-turned-politician Vijay was officially announced as the Chief Ministerial candidate for Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) in the upcoming 2026 Assembly elections.

The announcement came during the party’s executive committee meeting held in Panayur.

Vijay, popularly known as “Thalapathy,” made it unequivocally clear that TVK will not align with either the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) or the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK). “TVK is neither DMK nor AIADMK to strike alliances with the BJP,” he emphasised, criticising both major parties for prioritising “selfish political interests” over public welfare.

Rejecting communal politics, Vijay asserted that Tamil Nadu remains rooted in “social justice, harmony, and brotherhood,” and that TVK’s ideology would remain uncompromising and people-centric.

Formed in February 2024, TVK had abstained from the 2024 Lok Sabha elections to concentrate on grassroots organisation.

Now, with Vijay leading the charge, the party is positioning itself as a formidable third front in the state’s traditionally bipolar political sphere.

TVK leaders confirmed that Vijay will begin a statewide tour this September, following the party’s second state conference scheduled for August.

Party General Secretary N. Anand expressed confidence in Vijay’s charisma and vision, calling it “exactly what Tamil Nadu needs to break from the status quo.”

With the political heat rising ahead of 2026, all eyes will be on whether the superstar can transform fan frenzy into electoral muscle.
