Cuttack, June 7,( Newshub desk)—A fatal accident at the construction site of Shailabala Women’s Autonomous College has sparked outrage over workplace safety violations.

Sujay Kumar, a 20-year-old worker from Bihar, lost his life after falling from the sixth floor while securing iron rods for the roof slab.

Preliminary investigations suggest extreme heat may have contributed to the accident, but the lack of protective gear has emerged as a glaring concern.

Eyewitnesses confirmed that workers at the site were not provided helmets or safety harnesses, violating industry norms.

Following the incident, construction activity was halted, and contractor staff reportedly fled the scene.

Cantonment Police, led by Station Officer Yatindranath Sethi, have launched a formal investigation, questioning workers and contacting Sujay’s family.

Despite the severity of the incident, no statements have been issued by the contracting firm or college authorities, raising questions about accountability in workplace safety enforcement.
