Bhubaneswar, June 2, ( Newshub Desk) – In a tragic turn of events, a 7-month-old white tiger cub at Nandankanan Zoological Park has passed away, leaving the zoo authorities and visitors in mourning.

Born to white tigress Rupa and melanistic Royal Bengal tiger Krishna, the cub was part of a rare lineage.

However, just days before its untimely demise, it began exhibiting signs of weakness and movement difficulties.

Zoo officials swiftly separated it from its mother to administer treatment.

After showing brief signs of recovery, the cub was returned to its enclosure for public viewing. Sadly, it succumbed to unknown causes on Sunday evening, June 1, 2025.

A post-mortem examination scheduled for June 2 is expected to determine the exact reason for its sudden death. The loss reduces the zoo’s tiger population to 27, posing a setback to its conservation efforts.

Zoo authorities and wildlife conservationists have expressed deep sorrow, emphasising the importance of research and medical advancements to protect endangered species.

As the community awaits the autopsy results, the tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the fragility of wildlife conservation.
