Puri, Odisha ( Newshub Desk) – The Indian government has officially sanctioned the establishment of a new airport in Puri, Odisha, in a move set to enhance religious tourism and regional development.

The decision, approved by Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu, marks a significant milestone for the state.

Puri, known as the sacred home of Lord Jagannath, draws millions of devotees and tourists every year. The upcoming airport aims to facilitate direct air connectivity between Puri and major cities across India, boosting accessibility for pilgrims and tourists alike.

Odisha’s Chief Minister had previously urged officials to expedite the project’s development, given its importance to the state’s economy and tourism industry.

The airport will require approximately 1,164 acres of land, including forest and private land acquisitions, to bring the vision to life.

An initial investment of ₹2,303 crore has been allocated to the project, reflecting the government’s commitment to advancing infrastructure in the region.

With the project moving forward, Puri is set to emerge as a more accessible and thriving pilgrimage destination, further strengthening Odisha’s tourism landscape.
