Burla, 24th November 2025: TP Western Odisha Distribution Ltd. (TPWODL) has undertaken a series of major system improvement works across Sambalpur to strengthen the city’s power network and ensure safer, more reliable electricity for consumers. These initiatives, being carried out at an accelerated pace, reflect TPWODL’s strong commitment to delivering uninterrupted power and building a future-ready distribution system.

1. Enhanced LT Protection for Safer, Reliable Power Supply:

One of the key focus areas has been the upgradation of the Low-Tension (LT) protection system. By installing advanced devices such as ACBs, MCCBs, and LT distribution boxes at transformer outgoing circuits, TPWODL is ensuring quick identification and isolation of faults. This helps reduce the area impacted during outages, protects vital equipment, and lowers the risk of electrical hazards. As a result, both residential and commercial consumers are experiencing more stable and consistent power supply.

2. Citywide Pole Cleaning & Network Reorganisation Drive:

TPWODL has also launched a citywide pole-cleaning and network reorganisation drive to improve overall system health. Poles across several localities are being cleaned, and LT distribution boxes are being installed to create a more organised and structured network. This initiative reduces the chances of loose or exposed wiring, supports better load management, and provides consumers with safer, standardized connection points. The effort has visibly improved the appearance and reliability of the electrical network across Sambalpur.

3. Installation of DO Fuses for Faster Fault Response:

In addition, the company is replacing older fuse systems with modern Drop-Out (DO) fuses at crucial points in the network. The installation of DO fuses allows for faster isolation of faulty sections and limits the impact of faults to smaller zones. This not only protects key assets like transformers but also helps teams restore power more quickly, thereby improving overall feeder performance and ensuring greater public safety.

4. AB Switches Installed for Flexible, Efficient Operations:

To further enhance operational efficiency, TPWODL is installing Air Brake (AB) switches at important locations throughout the city. These switches allow field teams to sectionalize the network swiftly and carry out maintenance without shutting down entire feeders. The improved flexibility provided by AB switches helps restore power faster during emergencies and prepares the network to handle rising electricity demand in the future.

Together, these upgrades form a comprehensive plan to strengthen Sambalpur’s distribution network. With modern protection systems, organised infrastructure, improved switching arrangements, and stronger transformer safeguards, the city is experiencing a significant improvement in supply reliability and consumer convenience. TPWODL remains committed to investing in advanced technologies and proactive field operations to ensure high-quality power for every household and business.
