Tata Steel Kalinganagar & Neelachal Ispat Nigam observes National Fire Service Week to pay respect to firefighters

April 14, 2026, Kalinganagar: The inaugural function of ‘National Fire Service Week’ was organised at Tata Steel Kalinganagar and Neelachal Ispat Nigam on Tuesday to pay homage and gratitude to the brave fire-fighters who do supreme sacrifice while saving lives and assets.

The opening ceremony of the National Fire Service Week at TSK was graced by Uttam Singh, Vice President (Operations), TSK as chief guest along with other senior officials. The event was organised at Central Fire Station inside the plant premises and was coordinated by the Fire and Security Department of Tata Steel Kalinganagar. On the occasion, a ‘Fire Safety Awareness Rath’ was also flagged off by the dignitaries.

At NINL, the opening ceremony was graced by Susanta Kumar Tripathy, Head, Supply Chain, NINL as chief guest along with other senior officials of NINL.

During both the events, all officials took fire safety pledge post which a high-octane firefighting drill and rescue demonstration was displayed by the fire safety and rescue professionals.

During the week-long observance, a series of activities has been lined up by both TSK and NINL for employees, township residents, students, and the local community including quiz, awareness sessions and distribution of information leaflets. Additionally, a fire exhibition has also been scheduled inside TSK plant premises where the latest technologies used in fire and rescue missions will be showcased.

National Fire Service Day, observed annually on April 14th, pays tribute to the exemplary bravery and unwavering dedication of firefighters, particularly in remembrance of the tragic S.S. Fort Stikine incident at Mumbai Port in 1944. The devastating fire resulting from the ship explosion claimed the lives of numerous firefighters who displayed extraordinary courage in the face of extreme danger. This day serves as a reminder of the ongoing sacrifices made by firefighters in the line of duty.
