Kalinganagar, November 13, 2025: Over the past decade, Tata Steel Kalinganagar (TSK) has evolved beyond being an industrial powerhouse to emerge as a catalyst for inclusive and sustainable growth in and around its areas of operation. Guided by Tata Steel’s philosophy of ‘building a nation, strengthening communities,’ TSK, which commenced operations in 2015, has set new benchmarks in integrating industrial excellence with deep-rooted social responsibility.
Tata Steel Foundation (TSF), the social arm of Tata Steel has impacted more than 14 lakh lives across Kalinganagar in the last 10 years in initiatives spanning education, healthcare, livelihoods, skill development, and women empowerment. In FY25 alone, TSF has positively impacted 2.79 lakh individuals reaffirming its commitment to building resilient and self-reliant communities.
At the heart of this transformation are women emerging as true agents of change. Through TSF’s Disha programme, 345 have received leadership training and 1,522 have gained digital literacy, many managing their finances independently for the first time. Their growing participation in governance and entrepreneurship, over 1,300 women in Gram Sabhas and several running Didi Cafés, stationery shops, and utility stores, is fostering confidence, independence and community progress.
A shining example of collective empowerment is Navjeevan, a women’s cooperative founded in 2012, which generates ₹40–₹60 lakh in annual revenue through traditional crafts and Saura art. Members like Koushalya Patra and Sumitra Jamuda have been shortlisted for State Craft Awards, while Navjeevan’s collaborations with Titan and participation at the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival in Mumbai have brought Odisha’s craftsmanship national recognition.
In partnership with the Government of Odisha, TSF has been running a Multi-Skill Centre at Danagadi in December 2024 under the National Skill Mission. The centre has enrolled 71 students in employability courses.
Through its Poshan Project, TSF has been supporting the Government to fight malnutrition across 39 Gram Panchayats in and around Kalinganagar.
Through focused water conservation initiatives, over 689 acres of arid land were turned into fertile farmland in FY25, creating 10.36 million cubic feet of water storage. In the past two years, these efforts have added more than 300 million cubic feet of capacity, advancing climate-resilient agriculture.
To preserve tribal identity and promote education, 75 tribal language classes reached 3,000 students across two blocks . In FY25, 836 meritorious students, 70% girls, received ₹75 lakh in scholarships under the Jyoti Fellowship, while initiatives like the Education Signature Project and Model Schools continued to ensure equitable, quality education.
Operational since 2015, the Tata Steel Medica Super Specialty Hospital has emerged as a pillar of advanced healthcare for Kalinganagar and nearby regions. The 100-bed facility offers state-of-the-art services across multiple disciplines, ensuring quality medical care for not only the local community of Kalinganagar but also for the people residing across Jajpur district.
Beyond these structured programs, the ripple effects of TSK’s development efforts are visible across the region, from improved livelihoods for shopkeepers, drivers, and street vendors to better access to infrastructure, healthcare, and learning opportunities.
From empowering women and youth to advancing healthcare, education, and sustainability, Tata Steel Kalinganagar’s decade-long journey embodies the belief that industrial growth and social progress must advance together—creating not just steel, but a stronger, more inclusive Odisha.
