Bhubaneswar, Sept 22 — Tensions flared at Capital Hospital late Sunday night after a 14-month-old child died, allegedly due to a wrongly administered injection. The infant, admitted with symptoms of cold and fever, reportedly deteriorated rapidly following treatment by a female doctor on duty.

Family members accused the hospital staff of negligence, claiming the child was given incorrect medication. The tragedy triggered a wave of public anger, with locals vandalizing hospital property in protest. Police were deployed to control the situation and have launched a formal investigation.

Hospital authorities denied wrongdoing, stating the child was in critical condition upon arrival and received all necessary medical interventions. They emphasized that the cause of death was the child’s deteriorating health, not a medical error.

The deceased was the son of an online auto-rickshaw driver. In response to the incident, Chief Minister Majhi announced Rs 4 lakh in financial aid to the grieving family.

Authorities have assured that if negligence is confirmed, strict action will follow.
