The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has confirmed that the low‑pressure system over the Bay of Bengal will not intensify into a cyclone, easing concerns across Odisha.
However, residents should prepare for five days of Kalbaisakhi activity, marked by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds.
According to IMD forecasts, mornings will remain hot and clear, while evenings are likely to witness showers and squally winds.
The system may strengthen into a depression near Sri Lanka within 48 hours, but its direct impact on Odisha will be limited.
A Yellow Warning has been issued for 17 districts, including Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Puri, Khordha, Ganjam, Koraput, and Malkangiri, cautioning residents against thunderstorms and winds reaching 30–40 kmph.
The advisory remains valid until May 15.
Temperatures are expected to rise by 2°C in the coming days, with Titlagarh recording the highest maximum at 39°C.
Heavy rainfall has already been reported, with Dhenkanal receiving 132 mm in the past 24 hours. Wind gusts of 30–40 kmph were observed in Jajpur, Daringbadi, and Keonjhar.
