Bhubaneswar, June 04, 2026: Sushanta Kumar Mishra, Executive-In-charge, Ferro Alloys and Minerals Division (FAMD) of Tata Steel, has assumed charge as the new Chairman of the Mining Engineers’ Association of India (MEAI), Bhubaneswar-Sukinda Chapter.
The charge was formally handed over by the outgoing Chairman, Pankaj Satija, during the Chapter’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at a city hotel in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday. The transition marks a continued commitment towards advancing professional collaboration and innovation within the mining community of the region.
The event also featured an insightful talk by Dr TK Panda, former Deputy Chief Labour Commissioner, Government of India on the New Labour Codes. Dr Panda deliberated on various aspects of the recently introduced labour reforms and their implications for the mining and industrial sectors. The session provided a platform for industry professionals to exchange perspectives on regulatory changes and workforce management.
Shambhu Nath Jha, Secretary of the MEAI Bhubaneswar-Sukinda Chapter, moderated the session and extended a warm welcome to the newly appointed Chairman. The AGM also announced the new office bearers of the Chapter namely Shambhu Nath Jha from Tata Steel as Vice Chairman, RS Raghuwanshi from Jindal Steel as Secretary and Devraj Tiwari from Ferro Alloys Corporation Limited (FACOR) as Joint Secretary cum Treasurer.
The MEAI Bhubaneswar-Sukinda Chapter – with more than 250 members – continues to play a pivotal role in fostering knowledge sharing, promoting best practices, and strengthening industry-academia collaboration in the mining sector across the region.
Established in 1957 to advance and protect the interests of professionals in the mineral industry, MEAI boasts over 6,600 members, including mining engineers, geologists, metallurgists, academia, researchers, students and Private/public sector mining corporations and Government bodies. It operates through 28 regional chapters across the country—including an active one in Bhubaneswar.
