Kendrapara: A shocking medical error occurred at Karilopatna Primary Health Centre when a patient, Anant Jena, who had come for chest pain treatment, was mistakenly administered an anti‑rabies vaccine.
According to reports, Jena was seated next to another patient awaiting a rabies shot.
In the rush of handling multiple cases during a review team’s inspection, the pharmacist injected Jena with the wrong vaccine.
Soon after, Jena experienced dizziness and nausea.
Realising the mistake, the pharmacist immediately referred him to Kendrapara District Headquarters Hospital for observation and treatment.
Dr Sunil Kumar Sahu confirmed the incident, attributing it to the sudden rush at the centre.
He reassured that the anti‑rabies vaccine is generally safe and does not cause serious side effects.
The incident has sparked concern over medical negligence and patient safety in government health facilities.
